We won’t know much about the plot or the crew, but rumors have the film starting filming at some point later this year. Expect Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) to return for the last of the new trilogy. The likelihood is that Mark Hamill will return in Episode IX, but more likely after the unfortunate passing of Carrie Fisher last winter. Reports also suggest that Episode IX is undergoing a thorough re-write due to Fisher’s passing.

Andy Serkis and Lupita Nyong’o will also return for Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens revived the Skywalker saga in 2015 with a worldwide box office of $2.1 billion at the end of its run. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just ended its run in theaters recently after accumulating $1.1 billion worldwide.  Star Wars: The Last Jedi is slated to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
