His tweet was confirmation of news that broke this afternoon about Star Wars: Episode VIII is moving from May 2017 to December 15, 2017.

This signals a few things: (1) that Disney, Lucasfilm, and Johnson want more time to ready the sequel to the most successful domestic movie of all time; and (2) Disney became very comfortable with releasing a huge blockbuster in December.

This announcement allowed Disney to switch the next Pirates of the Caribbean with Star Wars VIII.¬†Written and directed by Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in pre-production and will begin principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce and J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski will executive produce. StarWars.com teases that we should stay tuned for “exciting” updates in the coming weeks.
