SDCC 2016: DC Films Taps Will Beall to Write Aquaman

By Muuka Muyumba

Gangster Squad writer Will Beall has been hired (again) to write the screenplay for Aquaman, but this time based on a treatment from director James Wan (The Conjuring). The film is slated for release on July 27, 2018 with Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) set to reprise his role as the King of Atlantis.

Beall and Kurt Johnstad had been working on the script through Warners dual track development process back in 2014. The Hollywood Reporter noted that recent events had the project in turn-around as DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns had entered to help Wan craft the film into a new direction. That new direction is Johns putting his imprint on the universe of films that can course-correct Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder’s dystopic vision.

Momoa is set to lead the film alongside Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Volko.
