Heavy Clearance on Star Wars Toys at Major Retailers

By Joe NUB

This year has been tough on Star Wars collectors since the big box stores have been trying to clear out merchandise in anticipation of Friday, September 4th. “Force Friday” is being orchestrated by Hasbro, Lucasfilm, and Disney to distribute The Force Awakens toys and products to the consumer in a mega event at mass retail starting at 12:01 AM. I’ll be there covering the event for you guys, but I also want to let you know that it’s a great time to hit the stores now. Pickings are hit and miss, and vary by store, but nearly everything “Star Wars” is on clearance! Here’s a brief breakdown of only some of the finds that I’ve had over the last few days:

Ok, this first pic goes against the entire point I’m making with this article, but new product trumps clearance items! Walmart has in brand new 3.75 in. Black Series action figures in stock for an astounding $12.83, including Han Solo in Carbonite, a new pair of Jawas, and a Clone Trooper that’s modeled after the Marvel villain, Dr. Doom. His name is even Clone Commander Doom! I’ve also read reports online that some Walmarts have these figures in stock, but already on clearance, so it’s on a store by store basis.

At another Walmart in town, their 6 in. Black Series figures are marked down from $19.99 to $9.00. That’s a solid price, but they only have ROTS Obi-Wan, Bespin Luke, and maaaybe one Han Solo. All three are nice toys, but common. They also have a Rebels AT-DP Driver for only $3! Now, that’s a good deal!

My local Target store has run out of 3.75 in. figures, but still have some 6″ including the Black Series Speeder Bike with Biker Scout for only $12.48, down from $24.99. The awesome 18″ line from Jakks Pacific are marked down from $19.99 to $7.48. I bought the Tie Fighter Pilot for my daughter for her 4th birthday and she loves the thing! The Jakks Pacific line is great for little kids because they are big, durable toys, with the level of articulation the 80’s vintage line had; movement at the head, shoulders, and legs.

Toys R Us doesn’t have anything on clearance, but to be fair, they rarely do. I did read reports that Wal Greens has their 3.75 in. Black Series on sale for as low as $.99, but my local store had already cleared out of everything. Lastly, I did find some Rebels vehicles at TJ Maxx at an already lower price of $19.99 (compared to $24.99 at mass retail), but then marked down again to $16.99. It’s a nice price especially considering they have the harder-to-find Imperial Troop Transport, and TIE Advanced Prototype ship available.

So that’s my brief rundown of some of the Star Wars toys you’ll find in the wild before “Force Friday”. Now get out there and let me know what you’re finding! -NUB
