CBTVB: ‘Titans’ Live-Action Series Casts for First Teen Hero

By Muuka Muyumba

Australian actor Teagan Croft has been cast to play Raven in the new live-action series Titans from DC hero maven Greg Berlanti. The series is slated to premiere in 2018 as one of the first series for a DC-branded-direct-to-consumer digital service.

The series will be written by Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman, DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns along with Berlanti. Supergirl producer Sarah Schecter is also part of the creative group.

Raven made her comics debut in 1980 in DC Comics Presents #26, a creation of Marv Wolfman and George Perez. She is the daughter of a demon (Trigon) and a human and is imbued with the power of empathic telekenesis, teleportation, and dark magic.

Croft has few credits to her name and none in the states. Raven is a coveted character in the hero group as she plays a shadowy figure who is reluctant to engage with the rest of the team. However, Raven’s mystical powers of manifesting dark magic may make her to most powerful of the Titans.

Titans will tell the story of how the team of Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Raven was formed as a bunch of sidekicks come together to defend the world when the Justice League can’t.
