CBTVB: New Gotham Poster Debuts in Time for Comic-Con

By Muuka Muyumba

Gotham follows the early days of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) on the Gotham police force as he navigates his way around the crooked streets of the city that would birth The Batman.  Fox debuted a new character poster for the upcoming DC show.BsiJTcFCEAAxglp

The show introduces us to the main big bad, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) who runs a crime syndicate under the authority of Carmine Falcone (John Doman). However, Batman’s isn’t the only origin stories told in the show. We will see how the Joker, Penquin (Robin Lord Taylor), Poison Ivy (Clare Foley), and Riddler (Corey Michael Smith) came to be who they ultimately became.

One character that has gone relatively underreported so far is The Joker. Showrunner Bruno Heller hasn’t been shy about mentioning that will see where the Joker got his start, but this role has not been mentioned to be part of the regular cast of villains like Taylor as The Penquin or Smith as The Riddler. However, if you peruse the imdb.com page for Gotham, you notice within the first few names Jon Beavers (Fresh Beat Band) who is listed as a nameless comedian.

Thinking I had an original thought, I googled and found that Bleeding Cool also has the same suspicions (after seeing the pilot) about Beavers and his character. In the pilot, Beavers’ comedian appears to be auditioning for Fish Mooney to get a spot to perform in her club. In fact, Bleeding Cool went as far as to suggest that Gotham from Alan Moore‘s The Killing Joke, by establishing the Joker’s origin as a stand up comedian.

I think, at this point, we are safe to assume that we will eventually see Beavers in clown makeup at some point on this show.

Gotham is set to debut on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 8 PM.
