CBTVB: Marvel’s Runaways is Coming to Hulu
By Muuka Muyumba
After many years of TV and film development, Marvel and the streaming service Hulu have struck a deal to bring Marvel’s Runaways to the small screen, according to Deadline reporting. The order is for a pilot with an eye toward a full-season greenlight, which is highly likely considering Disney owns a significant portion of Hulu, along with Fox and NBCUniversal.
The show will be run by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage along with Marvel TV president Jeph Loeb, and ABC Signature shingle.
“I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,” said Schwartz with Savage adding “Josh and I can’t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu.”.
The series was created by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona, debuting in 2003, and tells the story of a group of teens who find out that their parents are villain in the Marvel comics universe. The teens then team up to go on the run from the authorities and their parents, all the while they run into various heroes and villains they never knew they had a connection to.
“We’ve known the Runaways‘ story would make great television,” said Loeb, “and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie — who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience — write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.”
Marvel TV continues to expand beyond broadcast TV after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the recently cancelled Agent Carter premiered on ABC. Marvel TV now has Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders. Marvel TV is currently also working on a Cloak and Dagger for Freeform.
No word on when we may see the series hit Hulu.
