CBTVB: Marvel’s Luke Cage Details Emerge

By Muuka Muyumba

Marvel’s Luke Cage producer Cheo Hodari Coker recently spoke at the Captain America: Civil War premiere revealing new details about the upcoming project. Coker offered that Luke Cage’s series will be a bit different from Daredevil and Jessica Jones in terms of the mystery elements of those show. Coker said instead Luke Cage will be more closely aligned with HBO’s The Wire.

“It’s very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking. We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us,” Coker says of the show. “We have a lot of different musical appearances, but at the same time, we’ve got the Marvel action. We’ve got drama. I would like this to be, I mean, I know this is heavy but, The Wire of Marvel television, because we really deal with a lot of different issues.”

Simone Missick, who plays the popular Marvel heroine Misty Knight, was also at the premiere, and said that her version will be “exciting” with “rich” writing that provides her with chances to “kick ass”.

Series lead Mike Colter was also at the premiere and offers up that the series will be true to the character, but with certain changes to fit the times.

Marvel’s Luke Cage hits Netflix on September 30, 2016 with series’ supporting cast including Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Mahershala Ali as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, and Rosario Dawson, who reprises the role of Claire Temple from Netflix’s other Marvel properties, Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
