CBTVB: Marvel Reportedly Wants Jason Statham for Bullseye

By Muuka Muyumba

Jason Statham is rumored to have recently met with Marvel Studios for a role in their Cinematic Universe, and Heroic Hollywood is reporting that Statham has met with them to play Daredevil’s ultimate physical opponent, Bullseye.

In the comics, Bullseye is an expert marksman who is a mercenary for hire with superhuman martial arts skills, mastery of various forms of weaponry and almost an insane level of hate for The Man without Fear. Bullseye has had classic battles with Daredevil in various titles with both getting the best of each other on multiple occasions. Bullseye is particularly obsessed with Daredevil as he is one of the rare humans who can evade his aim.

One of the best parts of the 2003 Ben Affleck Daredevil movie was Colin Ferrell as the Irish hooligan version of the character though he could not save that sinking ship.

One major question to answer is whether we will see Bullseye have a fortified bone structure, which in the comics was laced with Adamantium. Of course, Marvel Studios can’t use Adamantium as a substance in the films or TV shows because of its connection with the X-Men universe. A possible substitute could be Vibranium, but that idea would be a bit of stretch for the reality-based Marvel’s Daredevil series on Netflix.

Ironically, Statham has not only been critical of superhero films in general, but more specifically, he has also been a bit critical of the level of acumen shown by Marvel in producing action on the big screen. A recent interview during the press for Spy had Statham criticizing Marvel’s use of green screen and CGI to produce their level of action.

Statham became an action star with the amazing Transporter film series after getting his acting start in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Statham got his first real chance at playing a big screen baddie in Fast and Furious 7 which led at an explosive box office return. He’s also expanded his brand by garnering rave reviews as a comedic foil for Melissa McCarthy in the upcoming Spy.

Marvel is reportedly now courting Statham for their Daredevil series which is looking for build on the success of their first season on Netflix. Marvel is also reportedly considering adding more classic Daredevil characters like Elektra and Mysterio, according to a separate report from Heroic Hollywood. Daredevil has reportedly brought about block-buster levels of reception on Netflix, although the streaming site is hesitant to release any of their viewership numbers.

Marvel’s Daredevil is set to return to Netflix in 2016.
