CBTVB: First Look at Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin

Marvel’s Daredevil premieres on Netflix on April 10, 2015 when they release all 13 episodes simultaneously. The show is not only a rebirth for Daredevil, but also a potential coming-out party for New York’s most devious, and possibly most misunderstood, supervillain. Executive producer Steven DeKnight characterizes Marvel’s Daredevil as much of an origin story of Kingpin as the hero himself.

The veteran actor brings his subtle strength to the role of Wilson Fisk and spoke about his approach to the character. “I just brought in this kind of character who in one sentence could easily go from being a child to a monster, depending on where his emotions take him,” says D’Onofrio, who studied the comic books to nail the “whole feeling and mood” of the Kingpin.

D’Onofrio was not an exact replica of the classic Marvel comic baddie, but the look was right once he shaved his head. “I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it’s a major punch,” D’Onofrio says. “There’s a lot of weight behind it.” Not sure whether the pun was intended, but I’m sure that we’ll get a great character from a character actor of such great renown.
