Fargo writer and showrunner Noah Hawley knows how to keep his actors happy: Rachel Keller has been resurrected (spoiler) to star in the first expansion of the X-Men brand on TV, Legion. Keller will play the female lead who is described as a ‘scrappy and optimistic woman in her 20s,’ though she is rumored to be some version of Rogue or Spyke.

Keller played Simone Gerhardt in season 2 of FX’s Fargo, and was a particular stand-out in a sparkling second season for the cable drama. She is still relatively unknown, and is trending toward stardom beyond the cable genre. Not too many details have been revealed about Fox’s foray into genre TV, and we don’t know whether to expect to see Keller’s character on the large screen in the future.

“The Legion pilot introduces the story of David Haller, a man who may be more than human and who has has struggled with mental illness since his teenage years. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he is confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. In the comics, David is the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier (aka Professor X) and Israeli Holocaust survivor Gabrielle Haller. The character first appeared in New Mutants #25 in March 1985.”

Hawley has positioned himself as a rising TV star himself, so his involvement in this property bodes well for its launch on the cable net. FX and Marvel Television are working together along with Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, and Jeph Loeb. No word on when the show is slated to his the network.
