CBMB: Wonder Woman Loses Director Michelle MacLaren

By Muuka Muyumba

Once destined to be the first blockbuster directing female director, Michelle MacLaren has left the upcoming Wonder Woman project for DC/Warners according to multiple sources close to the situation. “Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together,” the studio said in a statement.  MacLaren had not only signed on to direct, but also develop the feature.

It is unclear whether MacLaren’s departure will affect the movie’s scheduled release — it has been slotted for 2017. Star Gal Gadot is still attached to star of course and Jason Fuchs is on board to write the script. Many believe that some scenes from the film have already been prepped after sets were built in the desert while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice filmed in Detroit.

Sources tell Variety that test offers were set to go out to four actors for one of the male leads in the film on Monday. Scott Eastwood is rumored to be playing Wonder Woman’s love interest and government liaison in Suicide Squad, which would then have him reprising the role in the Wonder Woman stand-alone.

MacLaren has yet to make a splash on the big screen, but Marvel still opportunities available that she could easily fill if her desire is to head up a superhero franchise.
