CBMB: Justice League Details Reflect a Shifting Landscape in DC Films

By Muuka Muyumba

Birth.Death.Movies has some good insider information because they have now  allegedly uncovered Willem Dafoe’s character in the upcoming Justice League Part One. We were teased a few weeks ago when Dafoe was cast that his character would be a good guy, but no other information was revealed beyond that.

Now, Devin Faraci and his minions have discovered that Dafoe will be an Atlantean in the upcoming superhero team up. There is no word on who he is playing, but his position as an Atlantean suggests that he will also be a featured character in the Aquaman solo film. A great possibility is that he will play Orm Marius who is the half-brother of Aquaman.

Faraci also detailed an Aquaman scene and how they plan to accommodate the hero’s underwater scene with innovative film technology.

My sources tell me that rather than shoot in a water tank this time Zack Snyder has set up an elaborate rig on a green screen stage – it’s a two armed rig, with Momoa clutched in one arm while the camera is clutched in the other. They two arms are preprogrammed to move in sync so that Momoa can do all kinds of maneuvers while the camera moves around him. I’m assuming there’s a similar rig for more elaborate flying stuff. Momoa’s hair will be CGIed into a flowy, underwater look.

This report comes on the heels of news that Justice League Part One’s villain won’t be who we expected. Many pundits assumed that we will see Darkseid in Part One after Batman’s (Ben Affleck) apocalyptic vision of a future full of destruction and para-demons. However, Birth.Movies.Death is also reporting that a minion of Darkseid call Steppenwolf will actually be big bad of the movie.

Steppenwolf was featured in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a deleted scene titled “Communion” where Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) is shown communicating with a hologram of the villain. The character was created by Jack Kirby and first appeared in New Gods vol. 1 #7 (February 1972). He is the uncle of Darkseid and often a herald of the coming of the villain to a new world.

Eisenberg’s mad interpretation of Luthor at the end of BvS hinted at a devastating threat, but was he actually talking about Steppenwolf and not Darkseid?

A final note on Justice League is that Oscar-winner Affleck will be an executive producer in the series, which may be a continued sign of the changing times at DC Films. Affleck’s involvement is said to be spurred on by his disappointment with the critical response to BvS as he looks to garner some creative control over DC Films as Zack Snyder’s vision has not translated to the audience as many thought.

Justice League Part One is currently filming in London and is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2017. Aquaman is currently slated for July 27, 2018.
