First Look: Justice League Dark with Matt Ryan as Constantine

The long-gestating DC property has finally found its visionary for the DC Extended Universe film. Justice League Dark will be directed by Bourne Identity director Doug Liman whose career has been vast as he has moved from indie-comedies like Swingers to blockbuster actioners like Edge of Tomorrow: Live, Die, Repeat.

Justice League Dark will tell the story of a collection of DC Comics classic anti-heroes (John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon) who possess magical powers. We were given our first glimpse of magic in the DCEU when the Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) tried to destroy most of Midway City. Before the Enchantress, most characters and their powers have been explained away as exterrestrial or scientifically enhanced.

The 2017 Wonder Woman solo film will more than likely also dwell in the magical realm to explain her origin as well, but JLD will be the first DCEU completely focused on it. We are also likely to have a great bit of mysticism in Shazam.

Guillermo del Toro, who has been attached to the project for years, will produce along with Scott Rudin. Michael Gilio is writing the script. An animated Justice League Dark film is coming out on DVD and direct-to-home in just a few months.

No word on when we can expect the live-action film.
