CBMB: Viola Davis Cast to Lead the Suicide Squad

By Muuka Muyumba

Latino-Review is reporting that Oscar-nominee Viola Davis has been cast as Dr. Amanda Waller in the Suicide Squad. The nefarious Waller is the lead agent for A.R.G.U.S., the DC version of Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. that has some less than virtuous designs. Waller leads a group incarcerated villains on near-impossible missions to take out A.R.G.U.S. targets around the world. Waller insures compliance from these dastardly doers by placing explosive implants in their heads.

Davis was on the shortlist that included Oscar-winners Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer, after the cast was announced for the upcoming DC Entertainment film. That cast includes Oscar-winner Jared Leto as the Joker, Oscar-nominee Will Smith as Deadshot, as well as Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang (or Captain Boomerang), and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

‘The Wall’ has previously appeared in film and TV with another Oscar-nominee, Angela Bassett, playing her in Green Lantern, with C.C.H. Pounder in DC animation projects, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson on The CW’s Arrow

Latino-Review also points out that the casting may be contingent on her getting the time to do the role, potentially over several films, while she is part of a huge hit for ABC and Shonda Rhimes in How to Get Away with Murder.

Warner Bros. has scored another coup in casting Davis for the film set to debut on August 5, 2016 under the direction of David Ayer (Fury).
