CBMB: Vin Diesel Continues to Tease The Inhumans

By Muuka Muyumba

Vin Diesel is at it again and teasing us with his possible involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Inhumans with many thinking that Diesel was an obvious choice for the mighty Black Bolt. When he initially teased us last year many believed that his meetings with Marvel were strictly about The Inhumans, a film project that had yet to be announced. Then we were thoroughly surprised when it was announced that Diesel would actually voice Groot in The Guardians of the Galaxy.

I can say personally, that Diesel’s giddiness about how good Guardians was going to be was one of the things that got me excited about the movie, which went on to be the biggest domestic film in 2014. However, despite all that success, Diesel did not shy away from touting his possible involvement in more Marvel projects to come, so when they officially announced The Inhumans as a future part of Phase 3, many eyes turned to Diesel’s part in expanding that universe.

The Inhumans play a crucial role in the MCU expanding into a world of unnatural powers that could not be explained by science or interdimensionality. Currently, the MCU cannot mention mutants, so for President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige pushing the introduction of The Inhumans will help to explain characters like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

In the comics, The Inhumans are a race of superhumans that appear in various comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The Inhumans are the product of a Kree experimentation with the human race in an effort to defeat the Skrulls in their ages-old interstellar war.

The experiment created a race of superhumans through the use of mysterious Terrigen crystals that were used to release the potential within everyday people. A society was created and secreted away as the ruling class of the Inhumans became isolative and suspicious of outsiders. Black Bolt, the most powerful of all the Inhumans, leads the society in silence because his voice is so devastating that he can level a world with just a single word. The Royal Family includes Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal, Maximus the Mad, and the canine Lockjaw.

The MCU has introduced us to Inhumans on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now that we know the true origin of ¬†Agent Skye, aka Daisy Johnson, as the comic book character Quake. ¬†The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were introduced to a blue alien in T.A.H.I.T.I., who we later learn is a Kree, that had been supplying rebirthed life to members of S.H.I.E.L.D. who were deemed essential to their fight against otherworldly villains. The show has also redeemed itself as a darker show in season 2 and turned its focus to exploring the new avenues of the Marvel universe.

Vin Diesel’s inclusion in The Inhumans is a poorly-kept secret at this point, but still is just a small part of a much larger world that Marvel will work to grow in the next few years.

The Inhumans is scheduled to debut on November 2, 2018.
