By Muuka Muyumba

Tom Hardy is reportedly dropping out of the cast of Suicide Squad, according to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter. The Dark Knight Rises star was set to portray, the leader of the group, Rick Flagg who was the good guy tasked with wrangling the band of miscreants. He is said to be dropping out due to scheduling, according to THR sources. He is currently shooting The Revenant, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s frontier drama that also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and that shoot is now looking to go longer than initially planned.

Suicide Squad is set to begin filming in April under the direction of David Ayer, and the report suggests that Hardy’s world-wide media commitments for Mad Max: Fury Road would have made filming very difficult for him. He leaves behind a star-studded cast including Will Smith (Deadshot), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Jared Leto (The Joker), as well as Jai Courtney (Boomerang) and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress).

No word on a replacement for the highly-sought-after actor, but this is a serious blow to building momentum of the DC Comics movie universe.

Suicide Squad is tentatively set for release on Aug. 5, 2016, 5 months after the debut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
