CBMB: Thor Ragnorak Kicks Off Production
By Muuka Muyumba
July 4th was the official start day, and today, Marvel executive producer Louis D’Esposito tweeted good luck to director Taiki Waititi and the rest of the crew. Ragnorak brings the epic story of Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) quest to save Asgard from an insurrection by Death incarnate, the villainous Hela (Cate Blanchett).

Recent images from the set shows that Marvel is working hard at creating a new look for the world of Thor as the film began principal photography at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford, Australia. Waititi is also bringing his unique comic sensibility to the action adventure, which at the very least could be called odd, if not outright darkly comedic. The Thor franchise has been a money maker, but more of a frustration creatively as critics and fans haven’t been that keen on how the storyline has been progressing. The rumors have it that Ragnorak will tell the story of the impending destruction of Asgard as Thor is tasked with bringing the Hulk along back from a battleworld to fight against Hela’s forces, and fight for the Asgardian throne.
Mark Ruffalo brings along his take on Bruce Banner and the Hulk with Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) joining the cast as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (Creed) who will as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban (Star Trek) who will add his might to the fray as Skurge. Hemsworth returns as Thor of course along with Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager) as Loki; Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; and Academy Award-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard. The Warriors Three (Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, and Tadanobu Asano) and Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) are also rumored to be joining the cast.
Disney has slated a November 3, 2017 U.S. release date.
