Wyatt issued a statement saying, “I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the state date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I now that Gambit will make a terrific film.”

Fox will have to move quickly to replace Wyatt with the film slated to premiere in late 2016. Gambit has had a troubled history with its directors as Tatum has worked hard to get topline talent like Bennett Miller and Darren Aronofsky, but now with the loss of Wyatt, Gambit may be in deep trouble to make its date. Gambit is being positioned by Fox to kickstart a new franchise in the mutant universe, as well as possibly putting Tatum in a position to take over Hugh Jackman’s place in their film franchise.

Deadline doesn’t have a lead on who Fox and Tatum may target at the moment, but expect an update on candidates quite soon.
