CBMB: The Rock Reiterates that We Might See Shazam Sooner Then Expected

DC’s Shazam film is set to appear in 2019 right now, but star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson suggests that the release date might get moved up. Johnson offered “No, I don’t think it is going to be that far away. It’s going to be earlier than that. I don’t think 2019.” This is an interesting restatement based on what’s already been established with the Warner Bros. slate.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad are slated for 2016, Wonder Woman and Justice League Part One in 2017, The Flash and Aquaman in 2018, and then Shazam and Justice League Part Two in 2019. 2020 bring Cyborg and Green Lantern.

Johnson may be stating the obvious in that we may see characters from Shazam earlier than expected, but not a standalone film. However, reports on Johnson’s statements suggest that it is indeed the Shazam standalone that will be moved up, possibly because of his schedule, which currently includes Journey to the Center of the Earth 3 (2016), Central Intelligence (2016), Disney’s Moana (2016), Furious 8 (2017), and Shazam (2019). Currently, Johnson has all of 2018 open for filming Shazam, but he could fit in cameos in various DC films along the way.
