CBMB: Talk of a Fantastic Four Sequel Continues to Percolate

By Muuka Muyumba

MTV News sat down for an exclusive interview with producer/writer Simon Kinberg during promotional press for The Martian, in which he revealed that he is still working on a way to bring the Fantastic Four back for another go-around despite a disappointment reboot.

So far, Fantastic Four has only made $55.3 million domestically since its release on Aug. 7, with a worldwide gross of $160.7 million making it one of the lowest-grossing Marvel comic book adaptations of all time. This also includes an atrocious critical response with a C- Cinemascore from audiences.

Kinberg said that “I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know.”

However, Kinberg continued “[w]e’re figuring out what that movie would be. I’d like that to happen.” Kinberg also noted that he would like to have his stars return if possible.

Speaking of those stars, Kate Mara, aka Sue Storm, revealed from Toronto that she hasn’t actually seen the film because of her disappointment with the reception of the film. She was a bit more pessimistic about the prospects of returning noting, “[t]hat’s the thing that makes me most bummed because we have no idea if we’ll ever make another one,” she continued, “[its] unlikely that it will happen, but I would love to [do one]. I would love to play Sue Storm in a movie that everybody loves. That would be great.”

So what do you think? Do you think that Kinberg and Fox are mad for trying another attempt at a Fantastic Four film?
