CBMB: Spider-Man Homecoming to Tell a Harry Potter-Like Story as More Cast Added

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige trotted out his many toys last Saturday as the slate of upcoming Marvel heroes and villains. Feige was particularly proud of his re-acquisition the classic comic idol, Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

Feige offered some indication to the many interviewers how Marvel would handle the character now that he has returned. He piqued the interest of many after he noted that Marvel would likely try to tell Spider-Man stories in a new and unique way: Marvel might treat Peter Parker’s progression through high school similar to Harry Potter with each installment of the series coinciding with his year in school.¬†Homecoming will be Peter’s sophomore year as a 15 year old hero navigates the awkward of an American teen.

Recent reports have Spider-Man possibly coming in contact with another arachnid-themed-hero, the Black Widow. Rumors are that Scarlett Johannson has been spotted in Atlanta. She hasn’t been seen or photographed on set of Homecoming, but some think that she could have a cameo role as a trainer for the Avenger-in-training. Wouldn’t it be great if a love-sick Spidey keeps getting pummeled by the Widow during hand-to-hand combat training?

Homecoming is now less than a year away and continues to add actors to the cast in yet-unknown roles. Baskets star Martha Kelly has been cast in an unknown role, which could be very minimal, but may find her way into franchise, possibly as yet another teacher in the Midtown School of Science and Technology.

Another rumored addition is a unique one: mixed-martial artist, and welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley. He apparently confirmed a role in the film today during an interview related to the Ultimate Fighting Champion league. Woodley said during the interview that he was sure he could say anything, but he would be working on a Marvel movie this coming Thursday in Atlanta. The only Marvel film currently in production in America is Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Tyron Woodley

Spider-Man star Holland just happened to be at UFC 201 in Atlanta over the weekend. Woodley would join Georges St. Pierre as another UFC fighter in the MCU. St. Pierre played the classic Cap villain Batroc the Leaper in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Spider-man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
