CBMB: Spider-Man Homecoming Adds Michael Barbieri
By Muuka Muyumba
Young actor Michael Barbieri is in negotiations with Sony and Marvel Studios to join Tom Holland in next July’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film is said to be a day-in-the-life of the wall-crawler as he balances school, love, and being a superhero.
Holland made splash as the new Peter Parker in last month’s Captain America: Civil War, and is now poised to lead the film which is set to start filming later this month. Barbieri is said to be playing a close friend of Peter’s in the mode of Miles Morales’ best buddy Ganke Lee.
Barbieri is 14 and little known, but has been making a name for himself in the indie Little Men directed by Ira Sachs. He has also lined up another high-profile feature The Dark Tower as he is playing Timmy in that movie opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for a July 7, 2017 release and also stars Michael Keaton, Marissa Tomei, Zendaya and Robert Downey Jr.
