CBMB: Sharon Stone Teases a ‘Wee Bit’ in a Marvel Film

By Muuka Muyumba

Could we see a re-teaming of the steamy couple from Basic Instinct? Possibly yes, based on a bit of news that actor Sharon Stone let slip on the coach of the Late Late Show with James Corden.

She was on a panel with the Winter Soldier himself Sebastian Stan and Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), and Corden asked Stone whether she would ever do a superhero film again. Stone cracked that she is going to have a ‘wee bit’ in a Marvel movie, but shut down the conversation past that.

However, her saying a ‘wee’ part in a film may have been a clue of the franchise she may be joining. Ant-Man and the Wasp could certainly suggest a ‘wee’ part in size as well as character. If she were playing the long-missing wife of Hank Pyn (Michael Douglas), Janet Van Dyne, it would re-team she and Douglas with whom she shared some illicit screentime with in the aforementioned Basic Instinct. In the first Ant-Man film, Pym acknowledges to his daughter (Evangeline Lilly) that he doesn’t want her in the Ant-Man suit because he is scared he will lose her to the Quantum Realm as he did his wife.

Stone was a film femme fatale of the 80s and 90s in such films as Total Recall, Diabolique, and The Specialist. She had her greatest triumph in her role as the drug-addled Ginger McKenna in Martin Scorcese’s Casino in 1995. A role in a Marvel film wouldn’t be her first foray into comic book movies after her vamped out turn in Halle Berry’s disastrous Catwoman in 2003.

This would also be another casting coup for Marvel as the continue their trend of picking veteran actors to ground their fantastical films, and add to their mosaic of comic-to-movie characters. Along with Oscar-winning actors like Anthony Hopkins, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jeff Bridges, Marvel has been finding roles for some of the biggest stars of the 80s.

Sylvester Stallone reportedly has a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, alongside potential villain Kurt Russell. Glenn Close played Nova Prime in Guardians 1, while in the just-released Captain America: Civil War, Oscar-winner William Hurt returned as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters on July 8, 2018 with Paul Rudd returning as Scott Lang, along with Douglas, Lilly, and Lang’s buddies: Luis (Michael Pena), Kurt (David Dastmalchian), and Dave (Tip Harris). Peyton Reed will direct and Oscar-winner Adam McKay returns to write.
