CBMB: Rumor Has it Sony’s First Spider-Man Spin-Off will be a Silver Sable Solo Film

Today on Meet the Movie Press, former film reporter for TheWrap.com Jeff Sneider spoke on a rumor that he heard about Invisible Man screenwriter Abi Morgan being tapped by Sony and Marvel to write a Silver Sable (Silver Sabilnova) film.

Silver Sable was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Fenz, and is a classic Marvel character whose father was a Nazi hunter who worked alongside James Howlett (The Wolverine). His wife was murdered when the home he shared with his wife and daughter was bombed. As a result of her witnessing her mother’s death at the hands of terrorists, she becomes determined to take over leadership of the Nazi hunter group known as the Wild Pack.

Sable would go on to meet Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man 265 in 1985 while she was trailing the Black Fox. Sneider and his co-host Forbes’s Simon Thompson both seemingly corroborated loose ends of the story noting that Eli Roth may be involved in the project on a character Sony may not have known they had the right to.

Sable is a antihero in the comics where she’s been a mercenary, soldier of fortune, the leader of the Wild Pack, and also a CEO. Most importantly for Marvel/Sony films, in the Ultimate Marvel iteration of the character she is the leader of the Wild Pack tasked to take down Spider-Man and later Venom.

No word on when to expect this film, but this news appears to confirm ideas floated by Sony Studios president Tom Rothman that Sony and Marvel are working to expand the Spider-Man brand beyond his solo films.

Sony and Marvel are currently collaborating for the first time on Spider-Man: Homecoming which hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
