CBMB: Rebecca Ferguson Rumored to be in the Running for Captain Marvel
By Muuka Muyumba
The rumor is very early, but Heroic Hollywood is reporting that they have heard that Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation breakout star, Rebecca Ferguson is at the top of Marvel’s list to play Carol Danvers in the upcoming solo feature.
Ferguson joins another costar of Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt (Sicario), as a topline casting consideration for the cherry role, which would be the first female-led Marvel Cinematic Universe film, beating established leads like Black Widow (Scarlett Johannson), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to the superhero punch.
Ferguson’s star has been rising since M:I5, heading up casting lists for various action films like Gambit. She showed that she wouldn’t look silly during an action sequence with M:I5, and could carry the more emotive scenes when she was one-on-one with the master Cruise. As one of the few who may have actually liked Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules, I recall thinking ‘who is that’ when they would show us anything about Ferguson’s character Ergenia. Now, we see that she is positioning herself for much larger things as she is currently cast to play a role in the hotly anticipated thriller The Girl on the Train.
Currently, Captain Marvel is slated for November 2018 based on a script from Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve.
