CBMB: Peyton Reed Discusses his Desire for a Prequel or Sequel to Ant-Man

By Muuka Muyumba

The director of Ant-Man, Peyton Reed, sat down with Comicbook.com and answered a question about whether he would be in favor of heading up a prequel or sequel for Ant-Man.

“Listen, if we were lucky enough to be able to do a sequel or even a prequel, I’d be way into it,” said Reed. “I’ve really fallen in love with these characters. I was always in love with the characters in the comic book world but there’s a lot of story to tell with Hank Pym.”

The most interesting thing about this ‘revelation’ is that Marvel president Kevin Feige is looking into going back to another ‘period’ film similar to Captain America: The First Avenger. Another piece of the history puzzle is Marvel’s Agent Carter TV show which is headed for a second season in the winter. Every time Marvel produces a ‘period’ show or film, they are putting together a mosaic of events that help shape the films and heroes we see today.

The suggestion is that if we travel back to Hank Pym’s past, then we can see more hidden adventures that may have been happening in the microverse, say while Agent Carter and Howard Stark were setting the pieces in place for S.H.I.E.L.D. Ant-Man is said to have a flashback to Pym in his prime which has probably fueled much of this speculation. If you are curious where an Ant-Man flashback film would fit in Marvel’s current slate, then you have to understand that Marvel has built in more flexibility into that schedule as was evident when Thor: Ragnarok was pushed back in favor of a new Spider-Man film.

Ant-Man premieres in theaters on July 17, 2015.
