The Guardians of the Galaxy are set to return to the big screen possibly a bit sooner than expected. The sequel to Marvel’s cosmic smash hit is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017, but today, director James Gunn tweeted out the first teaser poster for the film. Rumors were also swirling that we may get our first look at footage from the film ahead of next month’s Marvel’s Dr. Strange, but today the official teaser trailer for the film has dropped online.

Volume 2 will be the further adventures of Marvel’s misfit band of outer space heroes led by Starlord aka Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who is a one-time Earthling, one-time Ravager, and putative space prince who is in search of his father and his true history. Quill is joined by returning members Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel). The Guardians, as the poster shows, will also feature some new faces like Yonda (Michael Rooker) who has been banished from the Ravagers, and Nebula (Karen Gillan) who may pose more problems for the team than solutions. Pom Klementioff will play another classic Guardians comic character, Mantis in Volume 2 who may hold the secret to Peter Quill’s origins.

Kurt Russell plays Ego the Living Planet and Elizabeth Debicki portrays Ayesha in Volume 2 though they are not featured in this poster. However, they will be the main antagonists of the film.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was an international phenomenon racking up over $300 million at the domestic box office and $440 million worldwide despite having characters who were little-known by the viewing public. Volume 2 has Disney’s cashiers ready for an even higher return on the highly-anticipated sequel.
