CBMB: New Ant-Man Stills Preview Marvel’s Next Avenger

By Muuka Muyumba

Empire Magazine unveiled their upcoming issue of the zine featuring Marvel’s Ant-Man upcoming premiere on July  17, 2015. This issue will also present behind-the-scenes information on other upcoming superhero films including Suicide Squad and Captain America: Civil War.

Ant-Man will be the first new Avenger to have his own solo film after a long gestational period that went from having him debut after the first Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, but instead saw him waiting until 8 years later to debut on the big screen. The original writer/director Edgar Wright left the project after his version of the hero no longer fit the current Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Marvel president Kevin Feige has positioned Ant-Man as a heist film in the MCU that will be one of the most humorous films in the franchise, which is saying a lot considering Marvel also produced the hilarious Guardians of the Galaxy. Ant-Man may also be extremely important to building Phase 3 of the MCU as we get to see how the Avengers has affected another part of the world: superheroes with no connection to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Oddly, Ant-Man may benefit significantly from the sour taste left in the mouth of many by Avengers: Age of Ultron, which some critics and audience members believed was too dour. Ant-Man could be the heroic action-comedy breath of fresh air Marvel needs as we await a long superhero-less fall and winter until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice spurs another  dour debate.

Ant-Man will be the twelfth installment of the MCU. The film was directed by Peyton Reed, with a screenplay written by Wright & Joe Cornish and Adam McKay & Paul Rudd, and stars Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Wood Harris, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, and Michael Douglas.
