CBMB: Malignant Man Adaptation in Development with James Wan as Producer

By Muuka Muyumba

Boom! Comics character Malignant Man is heading into development with Fox with Brad Peyton (San Andreas) attached to direct with Wan producing.

Wan is making his name across Hollywood after being known mainly as a horror director, having gone from the Saw franchise, and The Conjuring to heading up Universal’s Fast and Furious 7, and now has Warner Bros’s Aquaman set to hit theaters in a few years. Oh yeah, and The Conjuring 2 just made its money back after its second week in theaters.

Malignant Man has long been in development with some plans for TV at one time.

Wan is producing the adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic for Fox along with Boom!'s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy.

Malignant Man tells the story of Alex Gates, patient with a terminal illness who discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious alien parasite, which grants him incredible powers and a renewed purpose in life.  Gates must fight a secret society that holds the secrets to his tumor and his powers.

Zak Olkewicz is writing the script for this adaptation. Boom!’s film arm has The Empty Man in preproduction, while Adam McKay recently came on board to develop and direct an adaptation of its comic Irredeemable.
