CBMB: Lea Seydoux Offered Female Lead in Gambit

By Muuka Muyumba

Once rumored for the shortlist, Lea Seydoux has leaped to the head of the list and was offered the role of Belladonna Boudreaux for the upcoming Channing Tatum vehicle, Gambit.

She beat out Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Rebecca Ferguson (who actually dropped out because of another film) to play the female lead and potential villain of the film that kick-starts a new Fox franchise in 2016.

Seydoux is best known for her work in Blue is the Warmest Color, but has brought her smoldering film presence to franchises like Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and will be featured in the 007 film Spectre in the fall.

Belladonna Boudreaux is the leader of the Assassins Guild, and the childhood love of Tatum’s Gambit in the comics. Belladonna and Gambit are rumored to have a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ type of relationship in the film as their affair is meant to repair the rift between the Assassins and Thieves Guilds.

Gambit is set to hit theaters on October 7, 2016.
