Law is a well-known commodity in Hollywood, having been a part of such ’90s classics as The Talented Mr. Ripley and Gattaca. In later years, Law found a franchise in the Robert Downey, Jr. Sherlock Holmes films. We will next see him handle a wand in the Fantastic Beasts series as Albus Dumbledore.

Captain Marvel will tell the story of Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident imbuing her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. Back in the summer, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that Captain Marvel would take place in the ’90s with a young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) looking to defend Earth from being a pawn on a Kree-Skrull war.

In the comics, Carol gets her powers not just from an accident, but from an accident involving the previous Captain Marvel aka the Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Law’s addition is reportedly for an unknown role, but is reportedly to be a mentor figure for Larson’s character.

Captain Marvel is slated to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
