CBMB: Is Hugh Jackman Done Playing Wolverine?

By Muuka Muyumba

Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman posted a fairly cryptic Instagram photo today showing his fists balled up with the claws out on one hand with the post “Wolverine….One Last Time. HJ” This is news to most, if true, as Jackman has played a role in virtually every X-Men franchise film for Fox.

Jackman has said that he is not part of the X-Men: Apocalypse, but is still scheduled to be part of his own stand-alone, which now be his final appearance as the classic mutant Marvel character. Jackman’s story is truly amazing as he was probably not even the 4th choice to play the role back in 1999 when Fox was casting the original X-Men movie. Scottish actor Dougray Scott was originally cast as Logan aka Wolverine, but had to pull out for Mission: Impossible 2, then Fox scrambled to find a replacement and asked after then rising star Russell Crowe who then steered the search to his fellow countryman Jackman.

Jackman is now 46 years old and sees the light at the end of the tunnel as he has acknowledged how difficult it is to maintain his fitness for the role between appearances. If this truly is his last go-around as Wolverine, then we have truly seen something amazing as he has played Wolverine more times than any other actor has played a character on film.

The 3rd Wovlerine stand-along film is slated to premiere on March 3, 2017, and will reportedly be directed by James Mangold, who breathed new life into the stand-alone franchise.
