This news comes in the wake of Oscar winner Ben Affleck voicing his intention to ease out of the Batman role. Speculation has been rampant that Affleck had tired of the role shortly after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit theaters in 2016. Affleck was locked into the role in Suicide Squad and Justice League. Justice League was originally supposed to be 2 separate films, and Affleck’s hesitance at continuing in the role may have contributed to Warners condensing to one film. This week, Affleck seemed to finally confirm his hesitation during the lead up to Justice League.

Weintraub reinforced that Gyllenhaal was one of many names and was far from having the role locked up. Many fans suggest that the upcoming Flashpoint movie may rearrange the deck chairs and get us a new Batman for the future, and may be a way to swing the role to a Robin.

We will update you once the news is known.
