CBMB: Gareth Evans in Talks to Direct a Deathstroke Film

By Muuka Muyumba

The DC Comics character Deathstroke once seemed like a lock as a recurring adversary for the Justice League in their cinematic universe. However, after many months of speculation, reports are saying that The Raid director Gareth Evans is in talks to write and helm a Deathstroke feature starring Joe Manganiello.

If you recall, loads of speculation started when Batman (Ben Affleck) tweeted a test footage of the Deathstroke character from the set of Justice League. Then later, one-time Justice League director Zack Snyder revealed his love the villain, even sketching out some animatics for an upcoming scene. Later, reports revealed that Deathstroke may or may not be in Justice League, but would definitely be in a future Batman film. Then finally, about this time last year, Manganiello acknowledged that he had been approached to play Slade Wilson and had said yes.

Now, Manganiello will star in a film about the popular DC Comics assassin who lurks in the shadows like Batman, wields katanas like Katana, and is duplicitous like The Riddler. Deathstroke rose to prominence in the Teen Titans line of comics as he helped the villainous Terra infiltrate the team to tear them apart. He became so popular that he was included in Batman storylines.

Manu Bennett portrays the character to much acclaim on the CW’s Arrow TV show, but we have yet to see a version of the ‘Terminator’ on the big screen.

There is no report of a possible release date yet.
