CBMB: Disney Earns $40 Billion in Licensing in 2013

Disney estimates that it sold an astounding $40.9 billion in merchandise last year, which was up from $39.4 billion in 2012. Disney presented this news to ahead of the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

According to Variety, Disney is the world’s top licensor and this is not likely to change for several years running with upcoming movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, Big Hero 6, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: Episode VII, Pixar’s Inside/Out, and a Star Wars: Rebels TV series.

Josh Silverman of Disney Consumer Products said that first merchandise for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will arrive in stores in about two months before the film’s release in May 2015.

As a reminder, Disney acquired Marvel in 2009 and Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4 billion each.
