CBMB: Deadpool Searching for Female Lead

By Muuka Muyumba

Deadline is reporting that Fox is looking to land a female lead for the upcoming X-Men spin-off. Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Gotham), Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Sarah Greene (Vikings), Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf), Rebecca Rittenhouse (Red Band Society) and Teresa DeGouw (Arrow) are rumored to be in consideration for the unspecified lead role opposite star Ryan Reynolds.

The report does not mention just who these women may play, but most fanboys and girls assume that Fox is trying to find possibly eitherĀ Domino or FBI agent Allison Kemp. Domino is a fellow mutant assassin who frequently worked with Deadpool in the comics. Allison Kemp is a former FBI agent who ended up tetraplegic in an accident caused by Deadpool during one of her missions. She sought revenge on Deadpool by devisingĀ a plot to revive two of his deadliest enemies, T-Ray and Slayback. I truly think that most fanboys and girls are really concerned that they don’t try to stick Wade Wilson with a love interest.

Deadpool is being directed by Tim Miller, who has been a visual effects director for years, and will get his chance at directing a feature film from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg producing. Production begins in March.

Fox had a strong return to the X-Men franchise in 2014 with X-Men: Days of Future Past and is working to build off that success by expanding into a Marvel Studios-like cinematic universe that connects their films as well as possible TV projects. Deadpool is due in theaters in February of 2016.
