CBMB: Could the Red Hood Terrorize in the First BatFleck Solo Film?

By Muuka Muyumba

JoBlo.com is reporting that the first Batman solo film is lining up a Red Hood storyline as Ben Affleck would take on the violent vigilante in a new movie. We haven’t gotten slated dates for the upcoming films, but Warner Bros is apparently keen on Affleck’s Batman popping up not only in his own films, but also in cameos across the DC Extended Universe.

The Red Hood story is a complicated one that would require quite a bit of set up. The Red Hood first appeared in Detective Comics #168, The Man Behind The Red Hood! (which was published in February 1951). The Joker was the first man behind the hood back then, but a later version of the vigilante was Jason Todd, a one-time Robin. This Robin was killed by the Joker in Batman: A Death in the Family, is revealed to be resurrected by Talia al Ghul in the Lazarus Pit. But the pit changes him and his emotions and he becomes the new Red Hood and seeks revenge against those he feels wronged him including Batman.

In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne is still mourning the loss of a Robin in his Batcave with a scarred suit with apparent writing on it from the Joker, mocking Batman’s loss. So, the idea of a vengeful, resurrected Robin could easily fit into this continuity.

Affleck & Geoff Johns will be working on a script for the film, with the former expected to direct as well.
