CBMB: Could Captain America: Civil War be Hiding Even More Surprises?

Heroic Hollywood is reporting a couple of rumored roles that had yet to be revealed previously. Apparently, Marvel revealed two additions to the cast based on an e-mail sent to press about the upcoming premiere event of the film on April 12th.

First, Oscar-winner Jim Rash is part of the roster of stars. Rash is best known for his writing credit on The Descendants, but is also well-known for his role as the Greendale Community College dean on NBC’s Community. This isn’t completely odd considering that the Russo Brothers directed several episodes of the show, and they dropped a choice cameo in The Winter Soldier by Community star Danny Pudi.

The second cameo may be Oscar-nominee Alfre Woodard who is playing a New York politician named Mariah Dillard in Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix this September. This could signal that it’s all connected as Marvel higher ups are so apt to point out. The revelation could also mean a bit of solace for fans who have been led to believe that Marvel’s TV and film divisions were diverging from one another.

Netflix’s saga of shows haven’t shown more than scant references to the Battle of New York, but Woodard’s inclusion in the film may suggest that The Defenders team up will play directly into the aftermath of the events of Civil War.

Another possible surprise that may be hiding out in the promotion for Civil War is the identity of that being in those cryo-tubes seen in the trailers. Many wondered whether Hydra could be hording Inhumans, or possibly resurrecting Age of Ultron casualty Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). However, my thoughts are that maybe, just maybe, that’s Carol Danvers in that tube.

The trailers may provide clues like that photo above, and the Marvel logo crawl that shows features of a Black Panther and Captain Marvel in her black jumpsuit. Those logo crawls have been flipping pages ahead of Marvel films from the start and usually show features of classic storylines from the comics. This would be a major change to the creation of Captain Marvel, but Marvel has been known to alter the origins of its heroes for their cinematic universe. One big downside to this theory is that Marvel isn’t in the business of hiding the casting of a major role for such a major film like Civil War. That being said, we’ve only gotten one glimpse of Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and we haven’t seen Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) either so far.

Whatever happens, I can’t wait for Civil War. How about you?
