By Muuka Muyumba

Star Trek’s Chris Pine is rumored to be in talks with Warners to play the male lead in the upcoming Wonder Woman franchise opposite Gal Gadot. Pine would play Lt. Steve Trevor of the U.S. military who crash lands in Wonder Woman’s homeland. In the classic comic history, Trevor is hunted by the Amazonians woman, but later is paired with Diana aka Wonder Woman to act as a government liaison to the United States.

Recent reports suggested that Wonder Woman would be hundreds of years old the new DC Cinematic Universe suggesting that Pine could possibly be like the Peggy Carter role in the Captain America films. He could have crash-landed years ago and introduced Wonder Woman to the government, but keeping her secret powers hidden for years until Superman emerges.

The New 52 comics storyline brought a new history for Trevor, who pines for Diana, but has to put up with her relationship with Superman. Trevor is also a government liaison in this version, but branches between the Justice League and America.

Pine had been rumored to be up for the role of Hal Jordan in a Green Lantern film, but this report at least confirms his appearance in a DC Comics film. Previous reports had Scott Eastwood taking the role, but when told that he would have to test against other actors, he opted for a guaranteed role in Suicide Squad, according to Variety’s reporting.

Patty Jenkins is directing from a script by Jason Fuchs for the film set for release in 2017.  Gadot will first appear as Wonder Woman in next spring’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
