CBMB: Big Bits of Batman v Superman News

By Muuka Muyumba

It has been a wild news day because we may have just learned that Jena Malone has been cast in the movie for an unknown role. However, since director Zack Snyder is cribbing from Frank Miller‘s The Dark Knight Returns, we could assume that she might be playing Carrie Kelley, aka, the first female Robin from that tale.

However, not only has Snyder been palling around with Malone on set, he has also been calling radio stations in Detroit. The film’s director of photography Larry Fong has confirmed to /Film that Snyder indeed called a morning show to dispute their criticism of Aquaman.

Snyder then went on to drop some hints that Aquaman might be in the film (which is no far stretch) by describing some of his various powers that make him cool.

“You guys were disparaging, a little bit, Aquaman,” Snyder said. “…I don’t want to give anything away about the movie or anything like that, but Aquaman has some cool abilities. People are like, ‘Oh what? Does he talk to animals? Because that seems like what he does. Or fish?’ The cool thing with Aquaman is he’s Triton, so you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong because, of course, he can exist at these super deep depths. So when he comes up here, he’s crazy strong. Anyway, not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that, but he has the potential to be bad ass, that’s all I’m saying.”

Yesterday, Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.’ president of domestic distribution spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Batman v Superman shifting from May 2016 to March 2016. “The reality now is there really isn’t a bad week to open a movie,” Fellman said. “If you look at the summer box office this year, you can see that there were so many movies, one after the other. You can start with Spider-Man, two weeks later Godzilla, and then Maleficent, and then Edge of Tomorrow, and then Jump Street and Transformers. And the one thing they all had in common, not one of them did over $250 million. We’ll be the first one up [in 2016], which is very important, and we’ll have six weeks before Captain America comes in.”

“In terms of going back and reviewing the situation, it looked to us—and maybe our reconnaissance wasn’t great—that they were not going to have a movie [ready] on that date,” says Fellman. “Just that they held onto it and they might not be able to deliver. But they took another position.”

Fellman believes that the rest of the DC film titles should be released by the end of this month!! He also mentioned that the first real Justice League adventure might be closer than we think.

Finally, set photographer Clay Enos took a shot of a stately staircase that may ultimately be the movie location of Wayne Manor.
