By Muuka Muyumba

Jeff Sneider at TheWrap turned up the fire on the Bunsen burner of a rumor about Miles Morales, or another non-white version of Spider-Man being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On the Meet The Movie Press Podcast back on February 20th, Sneider offered that he had a “highly reputable source” telling him that Marvel was going to possibly use Miles Morales to introduce the classic comic character into Kevin Feige’s MCU.

Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not going to be white. Spider-Man’s not going to be white. I’m 95% sure. Spider-Man’s going to be most likely black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white.

Miles Morales almost immediately dominated Twitter’s trending topics when the Sony and Marvel broke their news of a shared Spidey-verse. Morales first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 (August 2011), following the death of Peter Parker. A teenager of Black Hispanic descent, Miles is the second Spider-Man in the Ultimate Marvel continuity. The Ultimate Spider-Man possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, stamina, reflexes and endurance, ability to cling to most surfaces, able to shoot very strong spider-web strings from wrists via web-shooters, precognitive Spider-Sense, “Venom blast”, and the ability to cloak himself.

Many fans also clamoured for rapper-actor Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, to play Morales, but most acknowledge that he could never pass as a teenager anymore.

Spider-Man will have his first solo film debut within the MCU on June 27, 2017, but is rumored to have a cameo in Captain America: Civil War, although he could also debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron though this is much less likely than Civil War.
