CBMB: Fox Issues Marvel Team Up of Tim Miller and Brian Michael Bendis

By Muuka Muyumba

Prolific comics writer and creator, Brian Michael Bendis, has signed on with Fox to develop a treatment for an X-Men project titled 143.

The allusion in the title is not immediately known, but if you Google x, 143, and Marvel, you’ll come across Uncanny X-Men Volume 1 #143 which was published in March 1981. The Chris Claremont-written issue tells the story of the X-Men’s first tangle with the ‘demon’ N’Garai, and is said to be an homage to Ridley Scott’s Alien with Kitty standing in for Ellen Ripley, and the N’Garai demon as the Xenomorph. The story also features classic X-Men Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Angel, and Professor X.

This report may confirm earlier rumors of a Shawdowcat movie being in development from Deadpool director Tim Miller. Miller is reported to still be director of the project.

Bendis recently made a splash by leaving Marvel Comics to write big name titles for DC Comics. The transition was such a big deal because of the indelible mark Bendis left there, having created genre-altering characters like Jessica Jones and Miles Morales. Bendis also wrote the seminal rejuvenation title Ultimate Spider-Man which ran from 2000 to 2009. The title put Peter Parker in the modern Ultimates line of comics alongside the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the Ultimates (Avengers). It was Bendis’ Spider-Man would be a crucial feature of Marvel’s Civil War comics storyline, as well as the inspiration for Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker.

No word on when to expect this project hitting the big screen.
